Switch lock assembly

Abstract

A switch lock assembly comprises one tumbler lock and at least one cam-operated switch. Each cam has a front cross-shaped projection and a rear cross-shaped recess. The switch can be disposed at four different positions relatively to the lock cylinder of said tumbler lock. If the switch lock assembly includes a plurality of cam-operated switches, those switches may be operated differentially by changing the combination of cams.

Claims

1. A switch lock assembly comprising a tumbler lock which includes an outer barrel, a lock cylinder positioned rotatably within said barrel and having a plurality of pin bores which extend radially through said lock cylinder and at least a portion of said outer barrel, a driver pin and follower pin positioned within each of said pin bores and spring means positioned withnin each of said pin bores adapted to bias said pins towards said lock cylinder, a plurality of circumferentially spaced tapped holes in the rear face of said barrel, an attaching plate means detachably secured to said rear face of the barrel by means of screw means cooperable with said tapped holes, at least one stopping pin secured in at least one of said holes, a camoperable switch secured to said attaching plate means, said cylinder having a rearwardly extending non-circular portion which projects rearwardly of said outer barrel, a stopper member secured to said non-circular portion of the lock cylinder extension rotatable with said lock cylinder and engageable with said stopping pin to limit rotation thereof, said stopper member having a cross-shaped recess formed in the rear end thereof, cam means including at least one cam element adapted to engage with an actuator of said cam-operable switch and thereby actuate said switch, said cam element having a projection in the front end thereof dimensioned to fit non-rotatably within said cross-shaped recess of said stopper member and a cross-shaped recess formed in the rear end thereof. 2. A switch lock assembly according to claim 1, wherein said non-circular portion of said lock cylinder extension is square and the front end of said stopper member is provided with a square aperture dimensioned to seat said stopper member non-rotatably on said extension. 3. A switch lock assembly according to claim 2, wherein said stopper member and each of said cam elements is provided with a through axial aperture, the rear face of said lock cylinder extension having a tapped hole therein in alignment with the said through apertures in said stopper member and cam elements adapted to receiving fastening means for securing said stopper member and cam elements fixedly to said lock cylinder. 4. A switch lock assembly according to claim 1, wherein a plurality of said switches are provided, said switches having actuators engageable by one of said cam elements to be sequentially actuated thereby.

SWITCH LOCK ASSEMBLY The present invention relates to a switch lock assembly comprising a tumbler lock unit and at least one switch of which actuator is driven by a cam fixed to a rotatable lock cylinder of the tumbler lock unit, so that those who do not have a given key can not operate the switch. One object of the invention is to provide a switch lock assembly wherein a cam-operated switch can take four positions in relation to a rotatable lock cylinder of a tumbler lock, so that users can select one position suitable for the use and the situation. Another object of the invention is to provide a switch lock assembly having a plurality of cam-operated switches which can be operated differentially by their respective cams fixed to the same lock cylinder. Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description. In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, a preferred form of the invention has been illustrated. In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a switch lock assembly constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention; FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of the assembly installed to a controller panel, parts being shown in section, and a key being inserted into a tumbler lock; FIG. 3 is a rear elevational view of the assembly; FIG. 4 is a front elevational view of an attaching plate employed in the assembly FIG. 5 is a side elevational view of the plate; FIG. 6 is a rear elevational view of a stopper employed in the assembly; FIG. 7 is a sectional view taken on the line 77 of FIG. 6; FIG. 8 is a front elevational view of the stopper; FIG. 9 is a front elevational view of a cam used in the assembly; FIG. 10 is a sectional view taken on the line 10l0 of FIG. 9; FIG. 11 is a rear elevational view of the cam; and FIG. 12 is a rear elevational view of a tumbler lock employed in the assembly. Refereing now to the drawings in detail, and in particular to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, a switch lock assembly constructed in accordance with the present invention com prises a pin-tumbler lock 10, an attaching means 20, a stopper 30, three carns 40, a screw bolt 50 and three cam-operated switches 60. The tumbler lock 10 is installed to a front panel 3 of a controller cabinet by means of a small nut 1 and a large nut 2. A packing plate 4 is inserted between the nut 2 and the panel 3. The tumbler lock 10 is composed of an inner rotatable tumbler-equipped lock cylinder 11 and an outer stationary barrel 13. The outer barrel 13 has four tapped holes 12 in the rear end thereof, the tapped holes 12 being disposed at equal spaces on the same circle of which center is positioned on the axis of the lock cylinder 11. The attaching means comprises a front plate 20a, a connecting portion 20b and a rear plate 20c, the front plate 20a being provided with a large hole 22 in the central portion thereof. Also the front plate 20a has four small holes 21 in the corner thereof, and the small holes 21 are disposed at equal spaces on the same circle which is concentric with said 2 large hole 22. The diameter of the circle is the same as that of the circle on which the tapped holes 12 are disposed. The outer barrel 13 is provided with an annular projection 19 on the rear end face thereof, which is concentric with the lock cylinder 11. The annular projection 19 is fitted into the large hole 22 of the attaching means 20, and the attaching means is fixed to the rear end face of the outer barrel 13 by means of two set screws 15 and two stopping pins 14 which are threaded into the tapped holes 12 through the small holes 21 of the front plate 20a. The rear plate 20c is provided with a small hole 23 in the left and upper portion thereof. Three switches are attached to the rear plate 200 by means of a nut 25 and a screw bolt 24 which passes through the small hole 23. The rear plate 20c is provided with a small hole 26 in the downwardly extending portion thereof, and a locating projection 61 of the switch 60 is fitted into this small hole 26. The actuators 62 of said switches 60 are located at equal spaces on the line parallel to the axis of the lock cylinder 11. The lock cylinder 11 is provided with a rearwardly extending square portion 16 which projects rearward of the rear end face of the outer barrel 13. The square portion 16 has an axial tapped hole 17 in the rear end thereof. Referring now to FIGS. 6, 7 and 8, the stopper 30 is provided with a cross-shaped recess 31 on the rear end thereof. This recess 31 extends to an axial square hole 32 formed in the front end of the stopper 30. Also, the stopper 30 has two shoulders 33 and 34 each side of the recess 31. As the square portion 16 of is fitted into said axial square hole 31, the stopper 30 can be rotated together with the lock cylinder 11. When the stopper is rotated through an angle of one of the shoulders 33 and 34 may be brought into contact with one of two stopping pins 14. If three set screws 15 and one stopping pin 14 are employed in order to fix the attaching means 20 to the outer barrel 13, the lock cylinder 11 may be allowed to rotate through an angle of Referring now to FIGS. 9, 10 and 11, the cam 40 is adapted to operate the actuator 62 of the switch 60. The cam 40 is provided with a cross-shaped recess 42 on the rear end thereof. The cross-shaped projection 41 formed on the front end of the cam 40 is fitted into the cross-shaped recess 31 of the stopper 30 and the cross-shaped recess 42 of the adjacent cam 40 (see FIG. 2). Each cam 40 has an axial hole 43 passing through said projection 41 and recess 42. The screw bolt 50 is threaded into the axial tapped hole 17 of the lock cylinder 11 through said axial holes 43 of the cams 40. In the case of the switch lock assembly shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the cam-operated switch 60 occupies the upper position in relation to the lock cylinder 11. To use the switch 60 in the left position, it is necessary to rotate the attaching means 20 in a counterclockwise direction throughout an angle of 90. To use the switch 60 in the under position, it is required to rotate the attaching means 20 in a counterclockwise direction throughout an angle of 180. Also, it is necessary to rotate the attaching means 20 in a clockwise direction throughout an angle of 90 in order to bring this switch 60 to the right position. In either case, the attaching means 20 can be fixed to the rear end face of the outer barrel 13, as four small holes 21 of the attaching means are in the face of four tapped holes 12 of the outer barrel. Of course, both the stopper 30 and cam 40 have been rotated throughout the same angle as the attaching means 20 in the same direction. Now, it should be 3 understood that in the case of the switch lock assembly constructed in accordance with the present invention, users can conveniently select one position suitable for the situation out of said four positions. Referring now to FIGS. 2 and 3, there are three earns 40. If these cams 40 are attached to the lock cylinder 11 by means of the stopper and the screw bolt 50, after the second cam is rotated in a clockwise direction throughout an angle of 90 relatively to the lust cam and the third cam is rotated in a clockwise direction throughout an angle of 90 relatively to the second cam, three cam operated switches 60 can be operated in turned every an angle of 90 when the lock cylinder 11 is turned by a key in a clockwise direction. It will be, therefore, apparent that there can be provided a differential switch lock assembly including a plurality of switches which can be operated differentially be a plurality of cams fixed to the same lock cylinder. The invention is not to be limited to the exact arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawings or described in this specification as various changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention. Therefore, only insofar as the invention has particularly been pointed out in the accompanying claims is the same to be limited. What I claim is: l. A switch lock assembly comprising a tumbler lock which includes an outer barrel, a lock cylinder positioned rotatably within said barrel and having a plurality of pin bores which extend radially through said lock cylinder and at least a portion of said outer barrel, a driver pin and follower pin positioned within each of said pin bores and spring means positioned withnin each of said pin bores adapted to bias said pins towards said lock cylinder, a plurality of circumferentially spaced tapped holes in the rear face of said barrel, an attaching plate means detachably secured to said rear face of the barrel by means of screw means cooperable with said tapped holes, at least one stopping pin secured in at least one of said holes, a cam-operable switch secured to said attaching plate means, said cylin der having a rearwardly extending non-circular portion which projects rearwardly of said outer barrel, a stopper member secured to said non-circular portion of the lock cylinder extension rotatable with said lock cylinder and engageable with said stopping pin to limit rotation thereof, said stopper member having a cross shaped recess formed in the rear end thereof, cam means including at least one cam element adapted to engage with an actuator of said cam-operable switch and thereby actuate said switch, said cam element having a projection in the front end thereof dimensioned to fit non-rotatably within said cross-shaped recess of said stopper member and a crossshaped recess formed in the rear end thereof. 2. A switch lock assembly according to claim 1, wherein said non-circular portion of said lock cylinder extension is square and the front end of said stopper member is provided with a square aperture dimensioned to seat said stopper member non-rotatably on said extension. 3. A switch lock assembly according to claim 2, wherein said stopper member and each of said cam elements is provided with a through axial aperture, the rear face of said lock cylinder extension having a tapped hole therein in alignment with the said through apertures in said stopper member and cam elements adapted to receiving fastening means for securing said stopper member and cam elements fixedly to said lock cylinder. 4. A switch lock assembly according to claim 1, wherein a plurality of said switches are provided, said switches having actuators engageable by one of said cam elements to be sequentially actuated thereby. k l k
